Dental Plans are fairly important type of insurance when looking at job benefits.
Dental insurance was once considered a big company perk, but now dental insurance has
established itself as a must have benefit. There are five different types of dental plans.
Direct Reimbursement Plan:
- The first and best type of dental plan is the direct
Reimbursement plan. This type of plan is straightforward. Employees are reimbursed for
any dental work without having to deal with payments or deductibles. These payments come
directly out of a pool that is set up by the company in which you work.
Indemnity Plan:
- The next type of plan is an indemnity plan. This plan is also fairly
straightforward and employees also get full payment for dental work. It is a plan that
works through the employers insurance company, but it does require that employees pay a
deductible usually around $50.00; this deductible being the one problem with this type of
dental care.
Managed care plans:
- Managed care plans are also another form of dental care plan. Managed care plans
require that patients choose from a pool of dentists and pay a co-payment for treatment
much like the HMO's used for Health insurance.
Preferred provider organizations:
- Preferred provider organizations or PPO's are also used for health plans and work in
the exact manner that they do in health insurance.
Dental health maintenance organizations:
- Dental health maintenance organizations are identical to the PPO's above but
with this type of insurance, dentists within the certain network perform their duties for
free rather than any sort of copay's.
