Health Insurance

According to the Health insurance buyer's guide, employees generally rank health care coverage as the most important of all employee benefits. So health care should be a key factor in choosing your job, upon getting out in the workforce. There are three popular programs that businesses generally provide for their employees. These three types of health care coverage are traditional, HMO's, and PPO's.

TRADITIONAL:

- traditional insurance is the best for most types of employees. It is the most flexible form of health care. Individuals can visit any doctor or hospital they want and receive coverage for any treatment covered under the policy. The one downfall to this type of insurance is that it usually requires a costly co-pay from the patient when visiting the office.

HMO's:

-An HMO stands for a health maintenance organization. This type of organization signs up certain doctors and hospitals into a network. HMO's require their members to choose a primary care physician who performs basic checkups and approves visits to any other physicians. One of the problems with this style is that the primary physicians generally only refer patients to doctors and hospitals that are part of the network. This sometimes results in patients having to pay for specialty visits to doctors

PPO's:

-The next form of health care provider I will speak about is a preferred provider organization or a PPO. This type of health care is a mixture between the traditional form and an HMO. A PPO is a collection of physicians and hospitals that agree to provide health care at a reduced cost to PPO members. These organizations have become very popular recently as a way to limit health care costs without the restrictions of an HMO. For visits to doctors and hospitals that are affiliated with the PPO, patients pay a low deductible. Visits to doctors and hospitals outside the network are not as fully covered, requiring higher payments from the patient.
